Rebrand
and Installation

Black Mountain Museum continues the legacy of educational and artistic innovation of Black Mountain College, an experimental college founded in 1933. It was located in Black Mountain, North Carolina, which emphasized holistic learning and the study of art as central to a liberal arts education.

To continue the experimental spirit of Black Mountain College, I decided to combine coding technique today with  my design system. Inspired by Josef Albers‘s study of squares, I created p5.js sketches that would automatically generate nested squares in different scales and colors, meant to indicate the uniqueness of every artist in Black Mountain College.

In order to make the experience more engaging, I create an installation as an intro to the special exhibition of Anni Albers. I used four kinds of fabric to indicate the endless possibility in her artworks. When no one is nearby,  a continuous loop of weaving techniques in the 1930s would be played. When the audience approach, the sequence of her weaving works and quotes would show up following the rhythm of the weaving machine.
